“There was a time when master portraitists captured our essence
in the form of a fine portrait . . . more than a simple likeness.
These images spoke of our character, our interests and to our love
of family. Creating portrait images that once again
evoke these qualities for modern families is our true passion
and the guiding force of The Portrait Artists.”
Dale Dimmick and Donna Alija, The Portrait Artists

Any art form possesses the capacity to touch our emotions. Images created by The Portrait Artists carry with them an additional dimension of expression communicating how we feel about our world, ourselves and those closest to us.
In the tradition of master portraitists Rembrandt, Gainsborough and Sargent, Dale and Donna specialize in providing their clients with fine art heirloom portraits on canvas among the most beautiful being created today.
Dale & Donna began their journey as portrait artists in 1999 shortly after relocating from Southern California to Washington State to care for family. Dale, a 25 year Hollywood veteran, Emmy award winning lighting director and cinematographer and his wife Donna, a business manager and convention and event producer wanted to reinvent themselves to combine their previous visual arts experiences. It was Donna’s insight that led the couple to explore the field of portrait art.

They began researching the photographic and portrait industry, looking for inspiration and hoping for mentorship. Dale's visual standards were set extremely high after years of working in Hollywood, the most demanding visual environment in the world. Most work they found to be quite good but not inspirational. Within a few days of research, they found what they were looking for... three portrait artists with distinctively different styles. These individuals are among the top ten in the portrait profession.
After making contact and with Dale's significant persistence, they graciously accepted his request for mentorship. Over the next year, Dale and Donna had the opportunity to correspond and work alongside these accomplished portrait artists as they continued to define their own portrait styles. By the end of the first year, their work had become very popular.
In 2003 having mastered their own style, Dale & Donna were approached to head the Wyndham Leigh Studio at Neiman Marcus located at the Tyson’s Galleria in Virginia. The couple enjoyed the relationship with Neiman Marcus and is grateful for the experience. They continue to provide their distinctive portraits in the greater DC area as "The Portrait Artists".
As The Portrait Artists, they achieve their unique look by combining the highest quality photographic film techniques, masterful lighting and hand painted mixed mediums on hand woven canvas. No other artists in the portrait field offer their uncommon combination of talent, technique and expertise.
In today’s age of visual awareness, many discerning families are preserving their heritage and commemorating their lifestyle with heirloom portraits from The Portrait Artists. The warmth and charm our creatively designed portraiture brings to the home has no parallel and quickly become cherished decorative focal points in the home. We invite you to contact us about creating your heirloom portrait in the tradition of the Old Master’s style.
